Black Friday has been successfully exported to the UK. It took several years and Amazon was one of the first stores to host Black Friday sales for Brits. Now basically all UK retailers have signed up to the Black Friday phenomenon. Last year British shoppers spent an estimated £810 million on Black Friday online alone. On Black Friday 2015 the online sales volume is predicted by Salmon to pass the £1 billion milestone ($1.5 billion).
Amazon UK has revealed that the retailer will host again a week of Black Friday sales in the UK. The Amazon Black Friday Deals Week will begin on Monday, November 23 and last until Sunday, November 29. The Amazon UK Cyber Monday 2015 follows on November 30.
Amazon UK has also already announced the Boxing Day sale taking place December 21 to December 31. This sale is followed by a “New Year New You” sale beginning January 1, 2016 and lasting until January 14, 2016.
Last year Amazon.co.uk has set a new sales record with 5.5 million items sold at a rate of 64 items per second. The order peak was in the morning at 8:29am. Amazon UK already broke that record earlier this year when the retailer hosted the global Prime Day sales event.
“The response to Prime Day has surpassed all of our expectations,” commented Christopher North, Managing Director at Amazon UK. “Prime Day was our biggest day of deals ever – we sold even more deals than on Black Friday. We can’t wait to do it again next year.”
Amazon introduced the Black Friday concept to the UK in 2010 with 300 deals. Last year the retailer offered 3,000 deals. We expect Amazon UK to offer this year 5,000 lightning deals in the Amazon UK Black Friday Deals Week.
