It is middle of March and the new 2012 TVs are appearing on store shelves. Retailers who need to make room for the new generation of TVs are selling off 2011 models at discount prices.
According to Consumer Reports there is also a change in the pricing policies of Sony and Samsung TVs that limit discounts retailers can give starting in April.
Samsung and Sony are changing from MAP (or Minimum
Advertised Pricing) to Unilateral Pricing Policy (UPP). UPP is what Apple is using with their retail partners. UPP allows a manufacturer to cut off supply in case a retailer sells a product under the allowed price. MAP only cuts co-advertising budgets. Samsung and Sony are supposed to use UPP only on the premium lines.
If you have been thinking about purchasing a new TV in the mid to high range, you should check now. Prices might be better than you will get on Black Friday 2012 in November.
The best Black Friday TV deals are also mostly on low-end TVs and not at the better equipped models.
